About the documentary:
Two Moms (2025) follows four female same-sex couples in Japan as they build their families through assisted reproductive technology. Attuning to the societal discrimination and legal challenges faced by each couple, the film portrays not only the common joys and struggles of becoming parents but also the additional trials of being an LGBTQ+ family in modern Japan. Shot by a lesbian mother who is navigating her own journey through parenthood, the documentary invites the audience to explore and reflect on the hidden diversity of families within Japanese society.
